Big Bang theory
[edit]"The character Sheldon Cooper, featured in the CBS comedy The Big Bang Theory, is named in part after Leon Cooper." This is is nice trivia, but should it be in this section? Biography and career
Middle initial
[edit]Leon Neil Cooper was a man.
- True, but why are you pointing this out?
I've read an interview in which he says that the N in his name does not stand for Neil, but it is just N, just a letter. The name for the article probably was found at [[1]], which in that case would be wrong (notice that in most pages of the website his name is written in the N form). It would be necessary a trustable source to clear it out (maybe someone could ask him by e-mail or something). The interview I read is in portuguese at: [[2]] the specific parts are:
"Não existe um ponto depois da letra "N", porque não é abreviação de nenhuma palavra. (...) A Wikipedia diz que a letra N do seu nome é abreviação de "Neil", que seria o seu nome do meio. Há alguma chance de você nos revelar o que ela de fato significa?
LNC: Eu só posso dizer que a Wikipedia está errada."
translation:
(in the intro)There is no period after the letter 'N', because it is not an abbreviation of a word. (...) Wikipedia says that the letter N in your name is an abbreviation of 'Neil', which would be you middle name. Is there any chance you could tell us what it actually means?
LNC: I can only say that Wikipedia is wrong.
I have changed "Princeton Institute for Advanced Study" to "Institute for Advanced Study", its correct name. The Institute is in Princeton, N.J. but is not part of Princeton University and does not use the Princeton name.

- I inserted a citation needed into the article before looking at the talk page and seeing that you had given a source. I'll add a reference to it, but won't include the link as it seems not to work. Perhaps if you can locate it you can insert the link.--Brian Josephson (talk) 16:52, 6 April 2015 (UTC)
Leon N Cooper
[edit]First line of the article starts "Leon Neil Cooper..." Last paragraph states "The correct form of the name is, thus, “Leon N Cooper”, with no abbreviation dots." I'm thinking either the first line should be changed or the last paragraph removed/altered, because it's leading to inconsistency within the article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.81.209.135 (talk) 20:05, 30 October 2010 (UTC)
Namesake
[edit]The article says 'He is also the namesake of the Cooper pair '. That's a funny way to indicate that the Cooper pair is named after him (the dictionary definition of namesake would appear to suggest that the meaning of the text is that he was named after the pair, or that by chance the two have the same name). Can someone think of a good rewording of this part of the article? --Brian Josephson (talk) 17:03, 6 April 2015 (UTC)
