hello i'm seach for information on the crew of HMS Ajax as my grandfather George Little served on her?
22? - Ajax (22)
[edit]Just curious what the number 22 behind Ajax means? Ajax (22), if I search the page, it only occurs again in the displacement figure: 7.220.
Leander (1931) which caught my attention, referes via 1931 to the time it was built (finished?) and launched. But (22)? or (D-39)?
I am admittedly a know-nothing just happen to like the two numbers: 31 and 22 (or 4 for that matter!)
LeaNder de Cologne
- (22) or (D-39) are pennant numbers; that page may help explain it. Shimgray 15:39, 14 August 2005 (UTC)
Ship`s Bell
[edit]Having seen HMS Ajax`s bell outside the Port Administration Building in Montevideo (Feb 2010) I don`t understand how this article can say that The ship's bell is currently located at Summerhill Mansion, Kingswood School, Bath, England. What`s the explanation ? --JustinSmith (talk) 09:08, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
- Two possibilities
- It was moved and nobody knew to update the information
- The ship had more than one bell
- Both are plausible, but we'd need some sources to sort it out -- saberwyn 05:05, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
Newport
[edit]"She duly arrived at Newport for breaking up" This phrase appears in the 'Ajax remembered' section. Which Newport are we talking about here? There are many 'Newports' (in South Wales and Rhode Island to name but two).
RASAM (talk) 14:56, 26 October 2010 (UTC)
- From what I recall of Newport, RI, a scrapyard would seem out of place, if only for the pollution. Even Whitley only refers to "Newport". He does mention Cashmore's who are a well-known scrapping yard in S Wales. I'll update the article on that basis. Folks at 137 (talk) 19:49, 20 February 2011 (UTC)
Halifax
[edit]- The same ambiguity occurs as in the 'Newport' section above, i.e. "she was adopted by the civil community of Halifax." (See the introduction). Again, which 'Halifax' are we talking about? Clicking on it is no help, it merely leads to a page of 'Halifaxes'.
- Folks at 137, I have linked to Cashmore, the scrap merchants in Newport, South Wales.

Number of hits sustained at La Plata
[edit]The text states:
- "Ajax was hit seven times by the Germans: X and Y turrets were disabled, structural damage was sustained and there were 12 casualties including 7 killed."
The seven hits seem to be wrong, since in the battle description only two hits are mentioned: the first disabling the two aft turrets and the second breaking the mast. The source attached does not mention any number of hits sustained by Ajax. The Exeter was the one with seven (or nine) hits, not the Ajax. Or how is it?--Andreas (talk) 22:59, 21 December 2019 (UTC)
