Cause and Effect
[edit]It is said in the article that: "Lord Asriel claims that the act of settling triggers Dust to begin to be attracted to the person." This is what we do believe at this point in the trilogy, but later we find out that Dust is the cause of setteling, and not the other way around. Dust (the angels betraying heaven etc.) is the thing that makes you sentient, an adult, and one manifestation of that is settling.109.186.94.42 (talk) 02:04, 12 October 2011 (UTC)
Original research
[edit]This article had the phrase, "(at least, when caused by a very high fall) ", in the last sentence of the first paragraph of the section 1 Form 1.1 Separation. But beginning with the last paragraph on page 375, Lord Asriel says, "There was something else that happened when the made the cut...The energy that links the body and the dæ mon is immensely powerful. When the cut is made, all that energy dissapates...they never thought of harnessing it." Clearly stating that the energy becomes available any time the link is cut. It appears that falling off the cliff severed the link between Roger and his dæmon, but that fall was not necessary to getting the energy by cutting the link.Nick Beeson (talk) 15:10, 5 December 2015 (UTC)
- Nick Beeson, there is/was quite a lot of 'fan-sitey' speculation in ALL the HDM pages, ditto over-detailed info. I spent several months trying to clean up, but retired exhausted. If you are fairly sure of your ground, I would prune. There are now few editors editing these pages. Pincrete (talk) 12:41, 6 December 2015 (UTC)
