Should references to "the Bahamas" be "The Bahamas"?
[edit]When the Commonwealth of The Bahamas is referenced should it be referred to as "The Bahamas" instead of "the Bahamas"? This is how I see the commonwealth referenced on the Bahamian government web pages and other sources like the CIA World Factbook but interestingly not in the UN list of members. I'm not a Bahamian so I hope someone with knowledge can comment. LeeGriffinNC (talk) 14:03, 8 October 2022 (UTC)
- From looking at The Bahamas, usage there is inconsistent, and there's no clear consensus on that article's talk page either. The most recent discussion there, Talk:The Bahamas/Archive 1#Discussion of capitalized "The" in the official name, was inconclusive, but leaned toward not capitalizing as per most style guides. I'd recommend capitalizing it here only when the full name is used ("Commonwealth of The Bahamas"), but not otherwise ("the Bahamas"), which is what is done in this article already. Highest homicide rate in the world

I have reverted the insertion of WP:UNDUE, WP:BIAS and WP:TE by blocked IP user as likely WP:SPA. Similar changes were made by this user to several related pages: Afro-Caribbeans, Afro-Jamaicans, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Coromantee, Mixed-race Caymanians, Slave rebellion, Tacky's Rebellion, Turks and Caicos Creole, Turks & Caicos, and others.
Having compared the diffs to see if there was anything worth keeping, I have manually restored anything with RSes or which improved prose (if there was anything). Most changes were poorly sourced and added significant bias into the article, or simply removed existing information for no policy-based reason.
For transparency, I will post this on all affected pages. Lewisguile (talk) 18:09, 17 September 2024 (UTC)
