Apple and grammar

FYI, in British English, it is common usage to treat collective nouns (e.g. Apple, Parliament) as plural, since they refer to a group of people, not just one. In effect, the speaker is saying that "the people who comprise Apple Corporation" (plural) did something. Since Wikipedia doesn't take sides on British vs. American usage, either could be correct here. Tverbeek 11:01, 4 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

You have the image Image:Cowbell2.gif on your user page; this image is copyrighted and used in the Will Ferrell article under Wikipedia:Fair use. The use on your user page of that image is unlikely to be covered by use however, and as such is probably a Copyright violation. Could you remove the image from your user page? Playing the violin

As time permits, I plan to abridge the sections of the Violin page. I didn't want to be too drastic at first; still need to sit with it for a bit. Playing the violin has some info added that does not show up in the parent page, and I bet more will arrive. (Soon I plan to redirect the somewhat skimpy How to play the violin to it.) I want to keep plenty of stuff on the main Violin page that will be useful to the casual reader, e.g. new student or their parent, without making them burrow too deeply for it. My days off are midweek, so that's when I have blocks of time to devote to this. Images

I don't think you can save the images from deletion. If you would like an image to use on your user page, please use a source image that is under a free license, and be sure to cite the source image so that others can verify that it's free. Also, please don't upload more images than you need—if you want to revise an image, reupload it under the same name instead of making a new one. Here are some possible places to search for images: [1] [2] [3]. Simply finding an image on Google Images does not mean that it is OK to use on Wikipedia; do not use Apple press photos, as they will be deleted. Also, if you don't include your username on the image/in the filename, it's more likely that other users will be able to use it. Thanks! — Miles←☎ 04:33, 17 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for your message re TRAX. FYI, there was no entry for TRAX all caps and as our registered trademark in entertainment, it felt appropriate to place it there and redirect to the list. Please advise to your authority here and reveal how your reasoning comes about so I may adhere to Wikipedia policy as well as be true to myself and those who advise me. TRAX is our unique mark. Hi there. Wikipedia is pretty much an anarcho-bureaucracy, so I don't have any more authority here than you do. The main reason I reverted TRAX to the redirect were:
See also Wikipedia:Vanity guidelines: "The key rule is to not write about yourself, nor about the things you've done or created. If they are encyclopedic, somebody else will notice them and write an article about them."
My advice to you is to be more specific in your article title; Trax Entertainment, TRAX (magazine) might be better choices with less likelihood of conflict with another topic, and I wouldn't raise any additional concerns about the subject's Notability. Appreciate your thorough and thoughtful reply. I am working to catch up on all things Wikipedia and appreciate the links and guidance very much having already been to some of the sections you mention. So you know, my intent is not so much self-promotion as it is just getting the history and facts right. A place for truth to just be! All is in integrity here my friend. The print version of TRAX ended in the nineties and I have been slow in getting the archive stuff online. We are now expanding and renewing some of our services through our online publications. Hello, when you want to link to the article about something British, please do not link to British, as that is a disambiguation page (which nothing should be linked to). Instead link to the one of the options found on that page such as United Kingdom or Great Britain by writing out [[United Kingdom|British]] or [[Great Britain|British]]. I am trying to add this to the page, but everytime it said I have violated copyright law. I am an employee of an NSCS and have the right to add that image to the page. I also have the serial number from our originally filing. Wikipedia is licensed under the GNU Free Documentation License. It is not sufficient to give Wikipedia permission to use copyrighted materials. It is irrelevant that you are an NSCS employee. To upload copyrighted content to Wikipedia you must do one of the following:
  1. License your content under a free license; this will allow anyone to use the content for any purpose so long as certain requirements are met. Only the copyright holder (NSCS) can do this. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags.
  2. Upload it with a Fair Use tag and provide a detailed fair use rational. See Wikipedia:Fair use.
