Body insread of clay
[edit]I don't understand your changes and as you have exchanged clay (the material) by body (the form it comes in) in every single instance, whether appropriate or not, I think they're wrong. Also you have deleted the one and only link to the clay article, which is certainly wrong. Axel Berger 11:52, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
Hello Axel,
The change from clay to body was made to better describe the material, and not ‘the form it comes in’. Clay is a group of minerals whilst body is the material from which pottery is formed. Although clays will be found in body formulations other minerals will be also. I will modify the article so this is better explained
Regards, Andy
I understand. But admitting that English is not my first language I have read several books on the subject in it and the raw material that pottery is made of (after some tempering mostly) was always called clay. So the distiction will at least need more explaining for a general readership. Axel Berger 14:42, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
Guten tag Axel,
Thank you for the prompt response. I do not think the issue is your language skills, your English is much better than my German! It is poorly explained in some books, or perhaps even misunderstood, that pottery is not made from clay alone. Not only is 'clay body' the correct, and recognised, term but its use should help distinguish it from clay
Regards, Andy
