Beardy Tom

[edit]

To the anomynous users who contrubited the edit with Beardy Tom, having done considerable rearch for this an related articles, I can find no references to the dog being known as Beardy Tom. If this is accurate, then we should work it in and explain it. Please cite source(s). Thanks. Vaoverland 20:10, May 18, 2005 (UTC)

Benji/Higgins vandalism has been going on for some time. Former versions of these pages may contain strange, random claims, such as that Higgins/Benji appeared in porn magazines, bit human actors, was addicted to pain medications due to arthritis and respiratory problems, etc. All of these claims -- and the "Beardy Tom" claim -- are completely false and the work of vandals. 64.142.90.32 07:30, 3 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Joe Camp's own website says that Benji was photographed for Playgirl - presumably a non-erotic photo though. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.212.36.188 (talk) 18:38, 3 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Higgins movie(s)

[edit]

The estimated death date of 1975 and the film in 1977 seem to be in conflict. I'll attempt some research, but anyone else who can help clear this up, please do so. Vaoverland 23:41, 25 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

based upon several sources, the original dog starred only in the first movie, and his progeny were the actors in For The Love of Benji in 1977 and the sequels. Vaoverland 22:18, 5 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
In addition to his seven years on Petticoat Junction, Higgins starred in two movies, Mooch Goes to Hollywood (1971) and Benji (1974). I have seen other sources that say he was born in 1960 and died in 1977. Vaoverland is correct that Benjean starred in For the Love of Benji. If you will watch the movies, you can see that she is a female (no visible genitalia in eye-level side-shots), whereas Higgins was a male (visible genitalia). 64.142.90.32 07:30, 3 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Burial

[edit]

Inn died in 2002, and requested that Higgins' ashes be buried in his coffin with him [1] at Forest Lawn Memorial Park (Hollywood Hills).

References

@ScrapIronIV:, aside from the difficult chronology here, the article on Frank Inn explicitly states this did not actually happen, although it's easy enough to find cites otherwise. Anmccaff (talk) 18:57, 13 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

My edit was to show that he made the request, not that the dog was actually buried with him. The Inn article confirms the request, including that he had a special casket made. I don't question that the Higgins wasn't buried with him. Shall I add a sentence to clarify? ScrpIronIV 19:04, 13 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, that'll work, I think. Thanks. Anmccaff (talk) 19:18, 13 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Birth date dubious

[edit]

I have tagged Higgins' date of birth as dubious for two reasons: 1. The infobox cites IMDb as a source, which is not accepted as a reliable source by Wikipedia and 2. The article states that Higgins was found at an animal shelter. Which means he is a very successful example of a rescue animal - but it is very unlikely the shelter would know the dog's date of birth (unless he was a surrender). 70.73.90.119 (talk) 02:42, 20 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It’s also highly implausible that the dog was 16 at the time of filming - he’s far too sprightly to have been that old. Paulito (talk) 21:33, 1 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That birth date also would seem to contradict the later statement that he was a puppy in 1960. Richard K. Carson (talk) 05:56, 18 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
