Hi there. Welcome to Wikipedia! The welcoming committee will be along shortly with fizzy drinks etc. Just a brief note: when there are several names for something, we don't make duplicate articles; instead, choose on the most suitable name and make the others into redirects. I've done that to SN1 reaction, like this:
#REDIRECT SN1

Wikipedia isn't for textbooks, such as the one you've created at Organic textbook. We are an encyclopedia, not a textbook. However, if you wanted to, you could create a list of links to articles about organic chemistry at something like List of organic chemistry topics. There, you could link to articles in an order suitable for being a textbook. I've listed your organic textbook page at Wikipedia:Votes for deletion.LittleDan 19:57 6 Jun 2003 (UTC)
If you want to create an online textbook try April's simple science wiki. Youl find it here http://www.renaissoft.com/april/cgi-bin/wiki.pl Theresa knott 13:17 9 Jun 2003 (UTC)
My pleasure copyediting Seven habits (or any other article for that matter, it's become a hobby) but I was looking back over it and noticed at the end that the principles are divided into "two groups", but it's kind of unclear which is the first and which is the second group. Hephaestos
I noted that you left a message for me asking if I'd help with your project. But as I came here, I can see that your original plan to make it a part of Wikipedia won't go with the general Wikipedia plan. So what I'll say is that, when it's decided what form your textbook will take, let me know.
Right now I'm pretty busy with some other stuff I'm adding to Wikipedia, so unless I get specific messages directed to me, I'll just lay low regarding the textbook project.

Hi, I read your message on the mailing list about a unified search and wondered if this thing that LMS put together might fit the bill for you. I've been using it for a while now. It doesn't have Wiktionary on it yet but I'll bet he'd put it there if we ask (probably dictionary.com too). - Hephaestos 15:58 25 Jun 2003 (UTC)
- Thanks Hephaestos, I checked it out ... hey, thats one of the guys that founded WP ... BTW I went back and fixed up the language on the Seven Habits site re your comments, thanks again.
This guy has a great idea. I suffer paying up to $1,000.00 a year for books for information that I can find out there on the web. I would support any and all efforts to share the lore of human knowledge with the masses. Best wishes, Karlwick! [Edited by MDR].
I like the textbook idea, but I wouldn't put it on test.wikipedia.org if I were you. It's often not working, and don't be too surprised if that database gets deleted occasionally. -- Tim Starling 17:00 5 Jul 2003 (UTC)
- Thanks, I moved it here to the meta page. Hopefully the real subdomain will be up soon ... User:Karlwick
Hi. I restored the content because some anonymous user had decided that "Black" was a preferable term to "African-American", even though that's the official census department term. I didn't know anything about the city vs. village vs. town thing, so I just restored everything. If you think that part should be changed, please go ahead and fix it. RickK 23:58 13 Jul 2003 (UTC)
Haven't checked out Wikibooks yet; I like the sound of the concept though. Probably will look into it sometime. - Hephaestos 21:46, 10 Sep 2003 (UTC)
Hi, regarding your vote on http://meta.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_logo_vote/Ratification#English_Wikipedia
To be valid you need to have a active userpage on Meta which points to your userpage of your home-wikipedia Giskart Walter 23:03, 27 Sep 2003 (UTC)
Meet Up
[edit]Yeah, this is spur of the moment, and convenient for me (I'll be there anyhow), but theres no reason not to schedule more of em! I think that half the reason for flaming and trolling and various other foolishness is due to the anonyminity online. If we can get together face to face and have a beer, I think we'll soon realize were pretty decent folks after all ;) Sam Spade 23:04, 8 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Spam in AjaxWindows
[edit]Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on AjaxWindows, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because AjaxWindows is blatant advertising for a company, product, group, service or person that would require a substantial rewrite in order to become an encyclopedia article.
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting AjaxWindows, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Speedy deletion of AjaxWindows
[edit]A tag has been placed on AjaxWindows requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Unreferenced BLPs
[edit]Hello Karlwick! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to insure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. if you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 49 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:
- David Bercot - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL

[edit]Just wanted to show my appreciation and thank you for your role in helping to launch Wikibooks, which has now become a truly marvelous educational resource. :) -- Ϫ 09:08, 10 July 2011 (UTC)
Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
