'Tahirih Thealogy: Female Christ Spirit of the Age' is a book by Starr* Saffa (she seems to like seeing her name written with a star on the end).

The book explores feminine gnosis in terms of conventional gnosis (as found in Christianity, Islam, Baha'i and other religions) as well as in terms of sociology, history and - of all things - quantum science! It encompasses this so convincingly that several prominent scholars have been moved to contribute to it. These include Florida-based Dr Jack Frankel, Ph.D., who has written the Foreword, and Dr George Kubacz, Ph.D., who has written a chapter on 'The Zarathustran Connection'.

The author's premise is really very simple: she argues that females have an equal claim to Messiahship as males. This fact should be self-evident. How sad that Starr* has to spend so much time convincing the world that this is so! How sad that, despite her tremendous competence and the support she is getting from many prestigious quarters, I have to express the fear that, even in today's politically correct world, prejudice against women is still so entrenched that this will prove an almost insuperable task.

Yet ONE PERSON was all it took to achieve every religious revolution - the Buddha, Christ, Muhammad, Abdul Bah'a. If anyone can achieve the long-overdue next one, Starr* can. I can say that with authority because I am privileged to have had several close personal encounters with this author, and have experienced at first hand the vibrancy, humour, healing grace, strength of will and human compassion that flow from her sense of mission.

Starr*, you ARE the new Tahirih. To close with your own salutation: the splendour of your message lives in all that is. Joyous journey!

What do trees have to do with peace?

Thirty years ago, in the country of Kenya, 90% of the forest had been chopped down. Without trees to hold the topsoil in place, the land became like a desert.

When the women and girls would go in search of firewood in order to prepare the meals, they would have to spend hours and hours looking for what few branches remained.

A woman named Wangari watched all of this happening. She decided that there must be a way to take better care of the land and take better care of the women and girls.

So she planted a tree. And then she planted another. She wanted to

Plant thousands of trees, but she realized that it would take a very long time if she was the only one doing it. So she taught the women who were looking for firewood to plant trees, and they were paid a small amount for each sapling they grew.

Soon she organized women all over the country to plant trees, and a movement took hold. It was called the Green Belt Movement, and with each passing year, more and more trees covered the land.

But something else was happening as the women planted those trees.

Something else besides those trees was taking root. The women began to have confidence in themselves. They began to see that they could make a difference. They began to see that they were capable of many things, and that they were equal to the men. They began to recognize that they were deserving of being treated with respect and dignity.

Changes like these were threatening to some. The president of the country didn't like any of this. So police were sent to intimidate and beat Wangari for planting trees, and for planting ideas of equality and democracy in people's heads, especially in women's. She was accused of "subversion" and arrested many times.

Once, while Wangari was trying to plant trees, she was clubbed by guards hired by developers who wanted the lands cleared. She was hospitalized with head injuries. But she survived, and it only made her realize that she was on the right path. For almost thirty years, she was threatened physically, and she was often made fun of in the press. But she didn't flinch. She only had to look in the eyes of her three children, and in the eyes of the thousands of women and girls who were blossoming right along with the trees, and she found the strength to continue.

And that is how it came to be that 30 million trees have been planted in Africa, one tree at a time. The landscapes--both the external one of the land and the internal one of the people--have been transformed. In 2002, the people of Kenya held a democratic election, and the president who opposed Wangari and her Green Belt Movement is no longer in office. And Wangari is now Kenya's Assistant Minister for the Environment. She is 65 years old, and this year she planted one more tree in celebration and thanksgiving for being given a very great honor:

Wangari Maathai has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. She is the first African woman to receive this award. After she was notified, she gave a speech entitled, "What Do Trees Have To Do With Peace?" She pointed out how most wars are fought over limited natural resources, such as oil, land, coal or diamonds. She called for an end to corporate greed, and for leaders to build more just societies. She added: "Our recent experience in Kenya gives hope to all who have been struggling for a better future. It shows it is possible to bring about positive change, and still do it peacefully. All it takes is courage and perseverance, and a belief that positive change is possible.

That is why the slogan for our campaign was 'It is Possible!'" "On behalf of all African women, I want to express my profound appreciation for this honour, which will serve to encourage women in Kenya, in Africa, and around the world to raise their voices and not to be deterred." "When we plant trees, we plant the seeds of peace and seeds of hope. We also secure the future for our children. I call on those around the world to celebrate by planting a tree wherever you are."

As she received the Nobel Peace Prize this week in Oslo, she invited us all to get involved: "Today we are faced with a challenge that calls for a shift in our thinking, so that humanity stops threatening its life-support system. We are called to assist the Earth to heal her wounds and in the process heal our own."

What does “Androgynous” Have to do with Tahirih and the Christ Spirit?

By now many of you may have seen the recent ad for buying the book “Tahirih Thealogy: Female Christ Spirit of the Age” in the March edition of New Dawn Magazine, p.77, however, I would like to bring your attention to a letter to the editor written by Michael S. on page 12. Michael writes:

For over 30 years, we have had a complete translation of the ancient Gnostic scriptures in The Nag Hammadi Library published by Haper and Row.

The Coptic Gnostic text The Pistis Sophia, dating from 150-300 CE, states that Jesus had three scribes: Matthew, Thomas, and Phillip.

Until the 1945 discovery in a cave near the village of Nag Hammadi, in southern Egypt, we had only a fragment of the Gospel of Thomas and no Gospel of Phillip at all, but that has all changed…

The word “Androgynous” appears many times throughout these texts, but few or none know what is the significance of Androgyny in the teachings of Jesus. Similarly, Jesus draws several times on the Biblical story of Adam and Eve, stating that the “two must be rejoined as one.”

I mention all this in the hopes that New Dawn will devote some space in the future to exploring the significance and real meaning of Androgyny in Gnosticism. This is a revolutionary and long suppressed teaching of Jesus the Christ….But one known to the greatest Gnostic saints and teachers.

Interestingly, this topic of 'androgyny' is addressed in my book “Tahirih TheAlogy: Female Christ Sprit of the Age”.

It is timely to examine why the word ‘androgyny’ is mentioned so many times in the Gospels which have only recently come to light and to reconsider why the Christ Spirit needed a second coming.

First of all let us consider, according to the Seer Rudolph Steiner, that the first Beings on earth were made in the image of God/ess – which was androgynous, asexual, and self propagating in a fashion much like cloning. In the passage of time they became hermaphroditic. Then finally in the time of the Fall the male fertilizing aspect separated out of the Female Form and the two sexes of male and female existed. This was the time referred to in the Bible where Adam and Eve were put out of the Garden.

In the Eternal Plan for humanity it is necessary for humanity to reconnect with Spirit and become whole again – and then there will be Heaven on Earth as foretold.

It has been predicted that there are to be seven Cycles for humanity on earth to achieve this. We are about to enter the Sixth Cycle of Balance. In order to be balanced the male and female aspects of a person need to be operational to mirror forth the image of God/ess as it was in the beginning.

When Christ first appeared over two thousand years ago one of his missions was to start preparing people for the transition into the Sixth Cycle, and thus there was discussion of ‘androgyny’ as was in the beginning and will be again. This androgyny is one of Spirit and Mind in every individual where the male and female principles operate asexually in a balanced fashion. When Christ returned in 1844 it was in the physical bodies of two Manifestations (The Bab and Tahirih as a Singularity of the Primal Point [first intelligence]). This second coming was a demonstration of each Manifestation being whole within itself and yet part of the One Christ Spirit.

Whether or not this developing androgyny occurs on a physical level has yet to be discovered and will be clearer in time. What we do know is that there is great sexual confusion at this juncture where people feel they are trapped in the wrong body and are having operations to reverse the situation as well as cross dressing. We also know that there is a significant percentage of people being born who are not male or female, but have a variation of gender identifiers. I have heard there are at least six variations. All these changes in humanity points to a changing back to the original prototype, which was the Divine Being.

If we understand humanity’s beginning, it’s present condition, and the final goal it helps to put into perspective the discussion of ‘androgyny’ in Gospels.
