Amerique primarily edits articles related to California. He also has interests in Anthropology, Linguistics, and Information, but editing in these areas is too much like work for him.
To work out his POV and better proceed on developing University of California articles, he wrote a mini-essay regarding student support for athletics at various campuses, located here User:Amerique/UC Essay.
Amerique was interested in how dispute resolution affects social conflict across the site. The development of cabals and the likewise production of trolls used to be all that interested him in this site, but he gradually came to view the larger game as pointless. Particularly after Academy Leader was blocked for "carry[ing] water for Wikipedia's critics."
"Wherever there is an aristocracy, or a guild, or any association of a class of men whose interests depend, or are supposed to depend, on certain propositions, there will be inevitably found some traces of this natural product of social feeling. Cruelties always accompany this system; and when it is consistently carried out, they become atrocities of the most horrible kind in the eyes of any rational man. Nor should this occasion surprise, for the officer of a society does not feel justified in surrendering the interests of that society for the sake of mercy, as he might his own private interests. It is natural, therefore, that sympathy and fellowship should thus produce a most ruthless power." -Charles Peirce, The Fixation of Belief, 1877 [1]
"You dig into yourself and the community to wage psychological warfare... you combat your own fears about beatings, shootings and possible mob violence... you organize, pound by pound, small bands of people ... you create a small striking force."Bob Moses 1963 SNCC organizer.[2]
"If I were asked for my conception of what I do, the strategist being the man who says, 'What difference does a particular death, a particular cry, a particular revolt make compared to the great general necessity, and, on the other hand, what difference does a general principle make in the particular situation where we are?', well, I would have to say that it is immaterial to me whether the strategist is a politician, a historian, a revolutionary, a follower of the shah or of the ayatollah, my theoretical ethic is opposite to theirs. It is 'anti-strategic': to be respectful when singularity revolts, intransigent as soon as power violates the universal."Michel Foucault, 1979
