User talk:Redux/Veja article
I had noted on the village pump that an article about Wikipedia in Veja, even if it was somewhat biased and critical, had the potential to bring a lot of attention from Brazilians to the project. Now there's hard proof of that. The article on the Brazilian president was pretty much "dead", with practically no interest from the community; new edits to it were rare (which made it possible for Veja's little test to go unnoticed until the magazine came out).
After the Veja article, Lula's article on Wikipedia just won't stop being edited, and when you look at the history page, you see a lot (and I mean, a lot!) of anon contributors, and most of those IP addresses are from Brazilian providers, which means that those people are Brazilians who probably first heard of the website through the magazine.
Not that it's all good, many of these anon contributors are turning out to be vandals, or just highly uninformed of what we are about here on Wikipedia (especially teenagers, with a lot of time on their hands but not too many ideas on their minds). Still, from this mess of misguided firsttimers, we just might get some good regular contributors. Hopefully, it will be quality out of quantity, which means that, in the long run, the Veja article will have been very good for the expansion of the Wikipedia community, both here and in the Portuguese website.
In the meantime, I hope everybody enjoys this translation page I've put together.
