Above the Hepburn romanization of each sound are two Japanese kana. On the left is the hiragana, and on the right is the katakana.
Not included in this chart are the voicing marks (two short dashes written North East of the character) which indicate a change in the initial consonant from t to d or k to g etc., or h->b; or the "semi voicing" mark, a small circle written north east of the character to indicate a change from h to p. Nor are the small forms of various kana (especially ya, yu and yo) shown which are used for writing sounds such as kyo or sha.
