J'ouvert origins
[edit]J'ouvert originates from Grenada, but the article credits Trinidad for starting J'ouvert. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.116.59.140 (talk) 04:45, 9 June 2016 (UTC)
Dear Caribana Festival Contributors,
[edit]I am pleased to announce the start of a new Wiki website specifically for Greater Toronto Area (GTA). It is being operated under GFDL licence and a thread of this article has just started there. We are trying to maintain completeness and integrity of the original article and also referencing it. Please take a look and send us your comments on how we can improve. GTAWiki.ca
Caribana is taking place right now. It would be nice if some Wikipedians in Toronto can go down the street and take a picture or two for this page .... -- 199.71.174.100 20:29, 1 August 2005 (UTC)
There is also a Caribana celebration in Barbuda. And this article needs to not focus on Canada -- either split into separate articles by country, or make a general article covering all of them. Tuf-Kat 18:54, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
I added a disambiguation page to clear some of the confusion. Should the Caribana page not go diretly to that page? What about external links? Nmacpherson 00:35, 23 March 2006 (UTC)
Name change of Caribana?
[edit]I'm in Boston, so word hasn't reached here yet via the Caribbean community, but is it true that this year Caribana has been renamed the "Toronto Caribbean Festival?" And the Caribbean Cultural Committee's name changed to the Festival Management Committee??? source: Toronto Star- CaribDigita 22:14, 2 July 2006 (UTC)
Problems as a result of?...
[edit]What about any talk about more of the problems with the event? Isn't there usually one death or more each year as a result of the festivities?
This statement is absolutely untrue. On average there is no more crime associated with this event than there is with any other large scale event in the city. It is clear from this statement that this person has never attend the parade.
It is not a statement, simply a question. There is no need to attempt to anwser a quaestion with such a snide attitude

Caribana ends on a family note
--New organizers call fete most successful, although founders of festival dispute attendance claims http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/LAC.20060808.CARIBANA08/TPStory/TPNational/Ontario/
[ . . . ] Festival organizers said they were pleased with the performance of the Toronto Police Service, which had more officers at events this year.
"They are not there as enforcers, they are there are community police people ensuring that people are safe," Mr. Halstead said.
"We've had absolutely no serious concerns," said Staff Sergeant Frank Besenthal, who spent the weekend attending Caribana events in an official capacity. "No injuries, no fights, no arguments." CaribDigita 23:56, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
Caribbean Website
[edit]I added 2 websites that are valuable source for caribbean carnivals around the world, not solely based on Toronto Caribbean Carnival.
I have added material that was deleted, which wasnt promotional or advertisement and was a netural piece of information. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SMCKINNON (talk • contribs) 21:14, 29 January 2012 (UTC)

Move to Caribana

The result of the move request was: page moved -- JHunterJ (talk) 19:39, 14 April 2012 (UTC)
Scotiabank Caribbean Carnival Toronto → Caribana – Since Caribana currently redirects here, this should be moved to that page. Except for sponsers and PR people, nobody anywhere ever refers to this festival as the "Scotiabank Caribbean Carnival Toronto", they call it "Caribana". Irregardless of the trademark dispute affecting the festival name change, this should be at the WP:COMMONNAME by which it is referred to, not the business/sponsered name it goes by on formal files. - ʄɭoʏɗiaɲ τ ¢ 01:31, 30 March 2012 (UTC)
Comment: see also same renaming issue at Talk:History of Scotiabank Caribbean Carnival Toronto (1967–1971). -- P199, 19:46, 3 April 2012 (UTC)
- Support as per nom and WP:COMMONNAME. Maybe in the future if the Caribana name falls in disuse, then it could be reconsidered (but without sponsor name that no one uses in normal speech). -- P 1 9 9 • TALK 18:07, 3 April 2012 (UTC)

Neturalabity of Information
[edit]There was nothing that I noticed that went against Wikipedia Policy. It was neutral information in my opinion that the user has posted. There is nothing I see that needs to be cleaned up since Information is valid, truthful and has been confirmed by sources.65.94.206.167 (talk) 16:23, 23 April 2012 (UTC)

Caribana → Scotiabank Caribbean Carnival Toronto – Request via OTRS. User plans to create article at this name for the"official" event. They would also like this page moved as they say it is creating confusion, and they feel this event is deliberately intimidating them. --Mdann52talk to me! 21:04, 13 February 2014 (UTC)
Survey
[edit]- Feel free to state your position on the renaming proposal by beginning a new line in this section with
*'''Support'''
or*'''Oppose'''
, then sign your comment with~~~~
. Since polling is not a substitute for discussion, please explain your reasons, taking into account Wikipedia's policy on article titles.
- Strong oppose - We don't need to include the sponser in the name, and it is still widely known as Caribana in Toronto, despite the stupid trademark dispute. OTRS is for media, so if this "person" feels intimidated, they can come edit here like everybody else is free to. This covers the "official" event. - Floydian τ ¢ 21:38, 13 February 2014 (UTC)
- Oppose seems like adding advertising for not reason. As there is no article on this alternate topic the OTRS refers to, and no information provided about what it is, there's nothing to compare it to to actually assess what this other Caribana is. -- 76.65.129.222 (talk) 06:51, 14 February 2014 (UTC)

Neturalability - removal of content that was already approved April 30, 2013
[edit]Lamonte, deleted material that was verified by sources and everything - further there now a statement saying major contributor may have conflict of interest, this is not the case . my information/ contributing is neutral I am not apart of organization currently so the Conflict of interest is mute and VOID.
Further, The Festival name was changed due to Scotiabank no longer title sponsor, Its now Toronto Caribbean Carnival. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SMCKINNON (talk • contribs) 00:42, 10 April 2016 (UTC)
- Please come back to COIN and finish working through the COI management process. It isn't your place to make determinations about your COI or lack thereof; that's for the community to decide. Thanks. Jytdog (talk) 01:43, 10 April 2016 (UTC)

incidents?
[edit]Every year there are numerous assaults and stabbings and shooting as a direct result from Caribana. The hospitals are full because of it. Yet this articles shows about 4 things over the past 20 years like its rare for something violent to happen. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 142.113.122.247 (talk) 09:13, 8 August 2017 (UTC)
Request to Rename to Proper Festival name -
[edit]Would like to change the current page and remove " Caribana " as this is not the legal name of the festival - its either has to be separate page "festival it self " or change the name of the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SMCKINNON (talk • contribs) 00:29, 30 November 2019 (UTC)

Caribana → Toronto Caribbean Carnival – Rather than a unilateral move, I think a discussion should be held with regards to moving this article to the official name of the festival. I feel it should stay at the title that most people identify with the celebration, but I think the community should decide. - Floydian τ ¢ 21:56, 25 October 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose. As per WP:CRITERIA and WP:COMMONNAME, the title should be Caribana. Even though it hasn't been part of its official name for a decade, it's still used in the news and even academic writing. I've never even heard it referred to as the Toronto Caribbean Carnival at all. Thiqq (talk) 22:34, 25 October 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose per WP:COMMONNAME.--Ortizesp (talk) 01:37, 26 October 2021 (UTC)
- oppose per wp:COMMONNAME—blindlynx (talk) 15:16, 26 October 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose, clearly the common name. 162 etc. (talk) 16:11, 26 October 2021 (UTC)
