Definition of a city and definition of Copenhagen

[edit]

I don't understand why this article apparently is limited to a rather random selection of municipalities (CPH, FRB, Tårnby and Dragør). Those municipalities does not in any way represent the city of Copenhagen. Why not choose to have an article of the city that starts at Copenhagen City Hall and extend outwards with approximately 1,3 mio. inhabitants? That would be how the city would be limited had there not been random municipality borders. --Santac (talk) 06:43, 10 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, Bornsommer. Santac is perfectly right. It is a random defintion you chose, you should use the definition of DST, which dawiki also uses. The 1.3 mio. number is also available in DST. The number should be looked up via the town area, not by adding numbers of random municipalities. Also not all the areas of the municipalities on the border of the town area are part of the town. Hope somebody have the time to correct, I have not in the nearest future. Let you inspire by the article da:København. --Madglad (talk) 16:18, 1 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I think I have only updated population numbers - and perhaps continued updating - for these municipalities, and not chosen the municipalities. As the criteria for a municipal entity in Denmark from 1 April 1970 was to try to achieve one municipality per continuously built-up area that would mean including all of the now more than 1.3 million people living in the continuously built-up area of Cph. Statistics Denmark has statistical abstracts of different areas, and there are other ways (election wards to the national parliament Folketinget/police districts, etc.). With explosive population growth - soso... - in Cph County since 1900, and population number collapse in the municipalities of Cph., Frederiksberg, and Gentofte since 1950, I am aware that to include only the few municipalities mentioned with over 799,000 inhabitants 1 January 2021, is outdated. The statistical abstracts from Statistics Denmark could perhaps be used, and perhaps population numbers in election wards, police, and judicial, districts. Maps of actual built- up areas could also be of use, i.e. sdfe spatialmap (Styrelsen for Dataforsyning og Effektivitet). But, as I write, I think I have not chosen the few municipalities mentioned, only kept updating population numbers.--Bornsommer (talk) 17:15, 1 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
There nothing you can call "Cph County" in this context. And there is no political or administrative entity, covering the whole town whithout including Nordsjælland and Bornholm Region Hovedstaden. It may be that the definition of DST covers also small areas in Region Sjælland. So let's forget the definition in the current article, and all administrative borders, and use the definition of DST. --Madglad (talk) 19:23, 8 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Municipalities in and around Copenhagen. In red the city of Copenhagen as defined by UN.

I'm going to change number of people living in Copenhagen to 1,3 mio. That is the number of people living ind the continuous city starting from Rådhuspladsen in Copenhagen and moving outward untill theres more than 200m between buildings. Thats the UN definition of a city. Look at the danish page. Unfortunately we also have people in Denmark misunderstading what a city is, so in the page history you will also find different numbers. Links: www.statbank.dk/BEV22, www.dst.dk The links provided for 0,8 mio does not show that theres 0,8 mio. people living in the city of Copenhagen. The first link directs to Danmarks Statistiks (DST) list of municipalities of Denmark, here Copenhagen has 0,6 mio. inhabitants since its only the municipality. The next link directs to a DST site where they have listed statistical provinces. They do not exist in the real world. Province Byen København mentioned in the link is the municipalities of Copenhagen, Gentofte, Tårnby and Dragør. Province Københavns omegn is the rest of the city of Copenhagen. The two numbers should be added to give an approxtimate number for how many lives in Copenhagen.

And the version of this page that was awarded Good article was with a population that included the whole city of Copenhagen. At the time it was 1,2 mio. --Santac (talk) 07:42, 10 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Density numbers need good citation

[edit]

I was using the density numbers listed on the page (City: 4,400/km2, Urban: 4,600/km2, Metro: 1,200/km2) for comparison with other cities and they seemed lower than I had expected, so I checked the citation at https://www.statbank.dk/BEV22 and it doesn't appear to have any density statistics at all. The da wikipedia page is citing http://www.statistikbanken.dk/BY1 with a single value of 6,607 pr. km² (quite a bit higher than the values on this page which raises further suspicion) but the linked page also doesn't appear to list density directly. The pages appear to list total population count so maybe someone took these and did some calculations manually. Lastly, I found that https://www.statistikbanken.dk/BY3 actually has population density for "København (del af Hovedstadsområdet)" but the value is 8307.1/km2 so quite a bit higher still than any of the other values. I don't know how this area definition matches the City/Urban/Metro classification used in this article though. jonls | T | C 22:32, 27 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

175.100.20.200 should be clearer. He seems to be in Cambodia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 455tgkl (talkcontribs) 13:13, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Why oh why do you insist on a wrong number of inhabitants?

[edit]

There's is 1.3 mio. inhabitants in Cophenhagen. You keep reverting my changes. The version that got af Good Article mark had 1.2/1.3 mio. inhabitants, so I don't understand why you don't accept its 1.3 mio.? --Santac (talk) 17:53, 29 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It has now been fixed. Thank you for getting the correct number in the artice. --Santac (talk) 17:08, 2 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It didn't take long for the number to be back to the wrong number. 0.8 mio. is not the correct number. Its like saying London only has 8,000 inhabitants. The population of Copenhagen is 1.4 mio. --Santac (talk) 18:26, 2 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It is now correct again. Thank you. --Santac (talk) 15:03, 3 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The Danish article says the Inner City of Copenhagen had 809.314 inhabitants on 1 July 2022 (Statistics Denmark). These are the municipalities of Copenhagen, Frederiksberg, Tårnby and Dragør. The urban area has a bigger population (1.3 million), but that should be mentioned separately. -Artanisen (talk) 10:01, 20 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thats not a truthfull way to present the city of Copenhagen. Refering to "Inner City" is similar to saying that London is only the "Inner city", which is around 8.000 inhabitants. If you look at www.google.com/maps and find Copenhagen its obvious that the Damhus Lake is not the western border for the City of Copenhagen as you claim. Obviously the first number that should be mentioned is the number for the number of people in the build-up area where houses are no further than 200m apart. --Santac (talk) 17:22, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
