Attitude
[edit]"attitude", in the context of the Project Mercury article, is best described in aircraft attitude; it's basically the physical orientation of the spacecraft, covering rotation and the like. Attitude thrusters are small thrusters to roll, pitch or yaw a spacecraft - you may have seen them called RCS, "reaction control systems". In a vacuum, you see, you can't control the spacecraft with airflow, so you have to use some form of thruster to change positions.
