Atlanta Sojourn
[edit]In no way is it a major part of club history but it deserves at least passing mention that the team in the late 1960s during the summer off-season played several games in the USA based out of the former Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium, the then-new home of Major League Baseball's Atlanta Braves, the National Football League's Atlanta Falcons and the first North American Soccerl League's [Atlanta Chiefs]], representing one of the first (if not the very first) appearances of high-level English Football in the Southern United States. Whilst perhaps not an instantaneous overwhelming success, it is nonetheless an important landmark in the development of Soccer in the United States. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1004:B1A8:CF95:0:1E:CDCB:A601 (talk) 16:18, 8 December 2023 (UTC)

Villa are the 5th most successful club in history. They were 4th until Chelsea started winning trophys. And someone has hijacked the 'most successful English clubs in history to include Spurs, which is a joke. They have won 2 League Cups in neary 30 years. No where near villa. They have started using European rounds, Runners up in Premier, etc. This is a disgrace trying to include Spurs. It is about major Trophys.AVFC1888 (talk) 18:27, 11 March 2019 (UTC) AVFC1888 (talk) 18:27, 11 March 2019 (UTC)

UEFA 5 star stadium
[edit]How is Villa Park a 5 star category stadium while this rating system only goes up to 4?? GOLDIEM J (talk) 12:17, 18 October 2019 (UTC)
- It used to read 4-star, which would have been true when the section was originally written before the rating system changed, which was in 2006 according to UEFA stadium categories. It went to 5-star by vandalism, or bragging, and nobody noticed. I'll remove it.
- On a general note, that whole section hasn't changed significantly since 2007, is almost entirely unsourced, and doesn't really give the sort of neutral overview you'd expect in a featured article these days: too much trivia, far too much about the (then newly opened) training ground, and too little about Villa Park itself. Could do with someone with access to some decent sources giving it a going over. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 14:21, 18 October 2019 (UTC)

Add the following announcement to the 'Kit Sponsorship' section:
Beginning with the 2020–21 season, the club's primary shirt sponsor will be online car retailer Cazoo[1], after the club announced the termination of the previous deal with W88.[2] 82.11.230.8 (talk) 10:04, 1 July 2020 (UTC)

Kit Sponsor table
[edit]I've removed the kit sponsor table as it's size was overwhelming on the page and is in my opinion far too much detail. Under the bold, revert, discuss cycle I am opening this up for a consensus to develop here. Woody (talk) 15:41, 5 August 2020 (UTC)
- I think it's the right decision as due to the current trend in football many clubs will have a new shirt sponsor every season. I've removed the table in the Burnley article as well, and replaced it with a short prose part. Maybe you can take this to the talkpage of WikiProject Football? I'm sure many will agree with you. Club nicknames should also include "The Villains " which is used as a playful nickname by other clubs. It should be noted that Aston Villa fans join in with this and is considered endearing and not an insult. JamesVicary92 (talk) 09:56, 11 July 2021 (UTC)

Kit manufacturer information is incorrect in "Kit Sponsor" section.
[edit]The kit manufacturer for the current season is Castore, not Kappa. Per Wikipedia's article on the 2022-23 Premier League season. 2022–23 Premier League#Personnel and kits
If the section is not going to be updated regularly or correctly, I suggest it be removed completely, since the request to remove the predecessor (the Kit Sponsor table) seems to have been approved two years ago and there is little or no effort to make sure the information in this section is correct (much less comprehensive). 173.174.238.157 (talk) 04:37, 30 August 2022 (UTC)

Addition required to second paragraph of the 'Supporters and rivalries' section on the Aston Villa F.C. page regarding inception of the '1897 Group' supporters group with cite news reference from BirminghamLive/Birmingham Mail
[edit]In 2024, following the inception of the group and a subsequent meeting with club officials, a supporters group called the "1897 Group" were allocated a section of Villa Park for a Premier League match against A.F.C. Bournemouth to launch the group's presence at matches.[1] 84.69.62.172 (talk) 21:04, 13 April 2024 (UTC)

Featured Article status - comments
[edit]This article was passed as a Featured Article in 2007, when Wikipedia standards were much different. The club has also been through relegation, promotion and takeovers since then. [4]
Here are some comments:
- The Featured Article version had the history as one section with no sub-sections. This is also employed on Featured Articles for historic clubs such as Liverpool, with links at the top for history sub-sections.
- Probably concurrent with the expansion of the history section, there are now seven paragraphs there with no sources whatsoever, and many others where the source probably doesn't justify all the preceding text. The history of the club before the Internet age is probably only covered in books, which a small pool of editors have access to or can verify.
Unknown Temptation (talk) 18:07, 23 April 2024 (UTC)
- I've also had a look at this article, agree this needs an WP:FA review based on content was added, some of it definitely unsourced, e.g. the quote "Crystal Palace also played in Villa's colours until the 1970s", should be sourced and looks like to me that is made up information.
- Ideally, it should follow Wikipedia:Featured article criteria which point 1c. explains about it being well researched, not fully as what you said above. I don't have any books of Villa's past as I'm not from that area, so I also agree everyone should verify content on this article as well. Many featured articles are certainly better presented than this one as they were reviewed far later than 2007. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 19:59, 23 April 2024 (UTC)
- The Internet Archive has books you can borrow for an hour at a time with a free registration account. Among which is Goodyear & Matthews' AVFC Complete Record 1992 edition which has a decent history section (the 1988 edition is used in this article but I don't think there's much difference other than the extra 4 years).
- If you've never used it, you can search for books without an account, and search within a selected book without an account, but if you want to turn the pages yourself you'll need to borrow it, at which point you'll be prompted to register. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 10:03, 25 April 2024 (UTC)
1982 Intercontinental Cup Final
[edit]Suggestion: add at least a reference to the 1982 Intercontinental Cup final in Tokyo, which Villa lost 2-0 to Peñarol of Uruguay. The addition should come after the paragraph about the 1982 European Cup final. Suggested text:
The title also qualified Villa to contest the Intercontinental Cup against the champions of South America, Peñarol, to whom they eventually lost 2-0. Grooobert (talk) 15:25, 15 May 2024 (UTC)

Cameron Archer returns to Aston Villa.
[edit]With Sheffield United being relegated at the end of the 2023/24 season, Aston Villa have re-signed Cameron Archer due to a clause in his transfer contract. Is there a reason why he is not listed under the first team? He do we edit the page to ensure it is correct? 82.32.248.129 (talk) 19:09, 2 July 2024 (UTC)
